Abstract
The paper attempts to assess the infrastructural developments put in place towards the realisation of vision 2020.Despite the efforts of the Federal government in trying to provide the necessary infrastructures, the reports on corruptions in Nigerian newspapers is still high. Nigerian government at sundry times planned to provide health for all as well as housing for all by the year 2000. These good dreams did not come true due to obstacles like corruption of administration, insincerity, poor governance, perennial power blackout, unemployment, insecurity of lives and properties and a host of others. The objective of this paper is to assess how far Nigeria has gone in the provision of the necessary infrastructures towards the attainment of vision 2020. 2000 sets of structured questionnaires were sent to target participants namely teachers, health workers, building engineers, water workers and road maintenance workers. They were asked to score their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the provisions of such infrastructural facilities. The result showed that 31.5% of the target participants indicated that good infrastructural facilities have been put in place while 68.5% of the target participants indicated their dissatisfaction with infrastructural facilities. The claim is tested at 5% level of significance using F-test which showed that table F>10.13 and computed F-test is 2.78. The interview results indicated that development of infrastructures like water, health, roads, housing and education are critical towards the
realisation and achievement of vision 2020. The epileptic nature of power supply has affected all the sectors of the economy, and life is becoming unbearable. Most of industries that use electricity to produce goods and services have been crippled due to poor power supply. The paper recommended urgent steps to be put in place the necessary infrastructural facilities to achieve the dreams of vision 2020.
