Abstract
The study examined the state of water supply in Maiduguri Metropolis of Borno State, Nigeria. Stratified simple random sampling was employed to obtain primary data and secondary information was obtained from the Borno state Treatment Plant. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data generated by the study. The results revealed that 35.8 percent of the household sampled depend largely on the Treatment Plant for safe and adequate water supply. The results also revealed that water supply charges depend on the nature of use: households, commercials and institutions. The constraints to adequate water supply enumerated by the respondents included power supply, overpopulation, finance and ageing pipes. To improve the level of water supply and ease the burden of water shortages, the study recommended that the growth of algae at the lake should be maximally contained, electricity supply in the metropolis needs to be improved upon, and prompt release of funds to the Treatment Plant for the procurement of purification agents, turnaround maintenance of utilities and manpower development.
